Happy Women's Day !

It's March 8 again, and what is so special about this day... nothing some might say... and some might say it's "Women's Day". Yes, it is... but isn't it like just any other ordinary day? What makes it so special so as to dedicate a day for it? And so it goes for the numerous "Days" we celebrate "Valentines Day", "World AIDS Day", "World No Tobacco Day" and so on and so forth.
The question is not why we dedicate a particular day to a certain cause, but why we don't remember these causes or feelings on a continued basis?
How is it serving the purpose of women's empowerment by having shopping malls offering discounts to women on March 8, but vulnerable ladies still tied down in the shackles of societal domination?
Or what is the meaning of having almost all radio and TV channels preaching about HIV prevention and the dangers of tobacco use on "Days", but forgetting about it the very next day?
Can transformation in behaviors occur by propogating thoughts on a single day?

This is my very first blog, thanks to my interest in viewing a friend's blog !

Blogging has taken over many internet users by storm and I could not understand how I remained away from this for so long... I love writing and this looks cool, but I am yet to get acquainted with the format of this blog spot. Hopefully, I will in a few a days and get addicted to writing here...

Blogging seems like a nice break from the mundane work that I do everyday - that of completing my Master's degree dissertation.... entering data into a computer software can be the most boring thing on earth one could ever imagine....
For now I am tempted to explore this even more, but I might have to go back to my work for now :(
